As of right now, none of the new classes and programs listed below will be available until spring / summer of 2014. But that could change, so be sure to check back for updates....

Mobile Mining Experience looks forward to vastly increasing our program offerings in the coming years. Below is just some of the new programs we are working on. If there is a program you would like to see us offer, please tell us. We plan to add many more great programs in the near future

 Many of these programs will only be available at a time and location set by our staff. Some may only be offered once a year, so be sure to check back often! Once we have a program date and location confirmed, we will update listing below to include a link to additional information on the program including including the date, time, and location the class or program will be held. This will also include registration information, program cost, and material fees.

Fluorescent & Magical Minerals Program:

A study of phenomenal minerals such as cat’s eyes, stars, color changing and iridescent minerals, amongst others. A “wow” program designed to interest students in the basic properties of light, chemistry and crystal structure. This also includes fluorescent & phosphorescent mineral demonstrations and lecture.  A base for future Chemists and Physicists.

Mineral Identification Methods Program:

 A fun and engaging workshop designed to teach participants the principals of mineral identification and provide an overview of mineral properties including hardness, luster, transparency, crystal form, cleavage and fracture. Participants use their knowledge to identify sample minerals while reinforcing proper scientific method techniques.

Minerals In Your Daily Life Program:

A study of the minerals that make up everything we have and affect everything we do, i.e. the dishes we use to eat with, the homes we live in, our electronic devices. Designed to give an appreciation and understanding of how important minerals are to our daily lives.

Plate Tectonics Program

A study of plate tectonics, including the structure of the earth, the advances in science that led to the theory of plate tectonics, the different ways in which the plates move and the resulting effects. An excellent base for future study designed to excite and inspire budding scientists.

The Three Rock Types - Advance Studies

An in depth study of the three rock types (Igneous, Sedimentary and Metamorphic) including formation, properties and identification instruction. This is a solid foundation for future geology study and a base for other earth sciences.

Gold Panning Program

Washing away dirt, sand, and gravel and seeing little specs of gold on the bottom of your pan is really something special, almost magical to many. This program makes that great experience and dream come to life. Panning for gold is great fun for "kids of all ages", so this program would be a great choice for an entire family to join in. But be warned, Gold fever is very real...

Participants will learn about gold, where it is typically found,  the methods used in the past and present to mine for gold, learn the proper technics for panning gold, and then actually pan for real gold!

Many are unaware of Maryland's gold, copper, and silver mining history. This program will introduce you to this nearly lost mining history.
