What's New:

Reflecting back on 2014 and a look ahead at 2015 and beyond:

Thanks to a great staff, and all of our participants and clients that supported our efforts, 2014 was another great year for MME. It was full of challenges and more than its share of set backs, but we still stayed true to our mission plan and inspired many "kids of all ages" in the sciences.

That's the good news... The bad news is we failed to find the financial support we needed to move forward on a number of new programs and projects. We sincerely hope that 2015 will be more kind in that respect....

2014, a year of big changes and great growth:

Never have we taken on so much during our "offseason". All I can say, is this clearly is a year of big changes and great growth for Mobile Mining Experience. We are really going to need all the support we can get to make this all work

Improvements, additions, and expansions planned in 2014:

New Programs for 2015:

In 2014, we offered just a few programs. Yet, we had lofty plans of changing that in a very BIG way! We began the behind the scenes work on developing several of nearly two dozen new programs and classes we had hoped to release in 2014.  This is a lot for us to take on, but with out the financial backing needed to make that possible, much of it had to be placed on hold.

Efforts to find supporters and grants for 2015 is once again underway. Any and all assistance on this front is both needed and very appreciated... Meanwhile, please feel free to visit the "More fun & Educational Programs" page of our website for more details on some of these great programs.  In addition to the programs, there is also a great deal of equipment and supplies that will be needed to be secured. Frankly, we still have barely even scratched the surface of what our long-term plans includes that we want and will be doing and offering in the future. To do it all would involve many millions of dollars we do not yet have...

New educational display cases & equipment for 2015:

We are designing and building a number of new educational program display cases. Currently underway or completed includes:

The Rock Cycle Educational Display Case:

This is 5' high by 4' wide and 23" deep educational display case that explains what and how the rock cycle works was partially completed and used in 2014. This case extremely unique and one of a kind. I can best describe it as being like the biggest shadow box you have ever seen with three lighted display cases (one for each primary rock type) loaded with specimens and  labeled arrows floating in space in multiple plans to help explain how the rock cycle works. Kind of like a three dimensional " rock cycle chart" with a rock display.  It was a big hit and great teaching aid that will only get better in 2015 with a few planned updates and improvements.

New Gem & Fossil Mining Flume Trailer:

High on our list to do is getting our new gem & fossil mining flume trailer built and into service. Other than a few little changes here and there, the design work was essentially done over a year ago now. This would be up to be one incredible piece of equipment. Once built and put into service, this system will far exceed any mobile gem mine we have ever seen, and even better than many of the fixed / permanent gem mine set ups we have seen too! But it comes with a hefty price tag that we just cant swing right now without some help. We are currently seeking sponsors to help make this possible. Those sponsors will have, if they choose to accept, their name prominently displayed within the signage on both side of the trailer that begins with "Mobile Mining Experience would like to thank the following gem & fossil mining trailer sponsors".  If you would like to help by being a sponsor for this flume trailer, we encourage you to visit the "how you can help" page of our website

New 16' tandem axel cargo trailer:

We badly needed to secure a new tandem axel enclosed cargo trailer to store and transport our educational program display cases, equipment, and supplies for the past two years. However, we are forced to consider custom built trailers as we require extra height at the doorways to allow us to load large display cabinets and heavier frames and axels due to the weight of all we need to carry.  The cost was considerably more than our budget over the past several years would allow, and sadly without some outside support, this will be tough at best with our current 2015 budget.

Fluorescent & Phosphorescent Minerals Educational Display Case:

This will also be a very unique display case that will help us demonstrate how some minerals, or the impurities within them,  react to different wave lengths of light. It will cycle between different wave length of light and darkness. It will start by displaying the minerals in natural light. Then begin exposing them to other wave lengths of light including long wave, mid wave, short wave to display the fluorescent properties. Then into total darkness to display how some minerals can be phosphorescent.

This system would be used both for our programs and will be lent out to local colleges and universities as part of their educational efforts as well.

Because this case will be in front of ten of thousands of participants and the public, this would make an outstanding choice for corporate sponsorship which would include a brass plate proximately placed on the case indicating the sponsors information. Some outside support would be very helpful to rolling all of these out.  If you would like to help support our efforts, we encourage you to visit the "how you can help" page of our website

New Geode Cracking Cabinets and Stations:

We are in the process of doing a complete redesign of our geode cracking station cabinets. This would be a new and vastly improved design utilizing all that has been learned over the past years of operations. The new system will feature a drop-down step that will run nearly the full width of the cabinet and a new system to reduce debris from leaving the cabinet top area. Once we build and test our new proto type, we plan to both replace all of our existing geode cracking station cabinets, and also add up to two more full stations to increase program participants capacities.

New geode display case:

Our geode cracking programs have become extremely popular and there has been a need to upgrade the way we transport and display the many geodes we use in the program. We plan to add a new display case to fill just that need and allow us to safely display some far more fragile and valuable specimens. If you have some unique geodes (or minerals and fossils for that matter) you would be willing to donate for us in our educational programs and future museum, we would very appreciative and put them to good use. Whatever we can not use will be donated for use in educational efforts elsewhere or sold with profits dedicated solely to educational purposes only.
